The Story of Dayspring farms

          DaySpring Farms is the realization of father-son team Murray and Nathan Brett’s dream to reclaim a better and more sustainable way of life. Family owned and operated by the Bretts, DaySpring Farms was founded in 2011. The 87-acre farm is located just outside of Danielsville, GA in Madison County and is USDA Certified Organic. 

While DaySpring initially started out growing produce for farmers markets and restaurants, the opportunity for expansion came after experimenting with row crop cultivation in 2013.  Construction of an on-site cleaning and milling facility to process these crops, primarily wheat and corn and dry bean varieties, began in early 2014. By October of the same year, The Mill at DaySpring Farms was open for business. DaySpring’s Mill provides a full line of organic wheat flours and corn products. Our grains are grown, cleaned, and milled fresh on site to achieve the Bretts’ goal of offering the most sustainably produced and highest quality product they possibly can and to help provide a healthy and more sustainable way of life for the surrounding community.

Murray Brett-Co-owner

Murray Brett is a man who wears many hats: engineer and carpenter by trade, pastor by calling, and farmer by vocation. Murray is no stranger to the agricultural lifestyle; he grew up in South Georgia working alongside his grandparents, loggers and cattle ranchers, and his parents, Lintorn and Willoise Brett, who owned a John Deere dealership. Murray met and married Paula in 1984, and the couple has four children: Nathan, Benjamin, Bethany, and Ethan.

Murray and Paula dedicate themselves to Dayspring Farms with the purpose of serving their community and reclaiming a better way of life for the future generations of their family. Murray’s vision for DaySpring led to the expansion of the farm to include the on-site mill.

Nathan Brett-Manager & Co-owner

A UGA alumnus, Nathan graduated in 2008 with a degree in History and Music Business. After college, he began working in the restaurant industry as a line cook in Nashville, TN. Nathan grew increasingly interested in the sourcing and sustainability of ingredients he worked with in the kitchen from local farmers. He moved back to his home state of Georgia to work on an organic farm, which fostered a desire to start his own farm. A year after purchasing the land for DaySpring, Nathan married his wife Simone in the fall of 2012. The couple welcomed their first son,  Noah, in late 2014, and another boy, Theodore in the summer of 2016. Nathan and his family currently reside on the farm managing the day-to-day operations. 

Simone Brett-Sales and Marketing

A Georgia native, Simone attended the University of North Georgia as a history major, but left academia to pursue life on the farm. Upon meeting and marrying Nathan, Simone stepped into the role of business office manager at the farm. 

Ethan Brett-Farmhand

Ethan Brett, youngest of the Brett siblings, has been working at DaySpring since its inception. He graduated from the University of Georgia in the fall of 2017 with a degree in forestry. 

Corrie Shubert-Intern & Assistant

A dedicated worker, Corrie has a passion for productivity and working with her hands. She does everything from harvesting and planting to filling orders, crop maintenance, and managing farmers markets while finishing up her senior year of high school.
